During 2014, ILABA began drafting a proposed licensure bill. ILABA engaged with states that had already passed licensure and continued to refine the proposed licensing act based on the feedback from other States that had started or completed this process.
In February of 2015, Senator Michael Connelly filed Senate Bill 1895 (link does not need to be included) SB 1895 passed committee but was never called on the Senate floor.
After several committee reassignments and documented opposition from the Department of Financial & Professional Regulation and the Illinois Chapter for the National Association of Social Workers, the bill needed more work. Illinois Psychiatry was a proponent, the committee at that time continued their hard work and moved forward.
